Wonders from the Word – The Evolution of Ideas

June 19th, 2007 by phall

In researching today, I came across this thought: “The Atenism-Judaism borrowing connection begins with a general naturalistic assumption that not only denies the possibility of external revelation, but from a rational perspective, supposes that monotheism was a late development that evolved from polytheism, which had in turned evolved from polydemonism, and so on back.”

The benefit of doing much reading is that the idea of others can spawn new ideas in yourself.   This new thought of mine can be called, “The evolution of ideas.”  In my experience, new ideas are rather simple, not complex.  The evolution of ideas tends to make things more complex, at least in the beginning.  Take the concept or idea of American Democracy.  Is American government today simpler or more complex than when it began?  Take as another example, “Christianity.”  Is “Christianity” today simpler or more complex?  The answer to both is that they are more complext.  That is why, for example, in “Christianity” there was a “Reformation” and a “Restoration.”  People saw in their day a “Christianity” something far bigger and more complex than what they read of in the beginning.

As time rolls by, ideas usually get more complex, rather than simpler.

However, to suggest that mono-theism grew out of poly-theism is exactly the opposite.  Therefore I suggest that the premise, that mono-theism grew out of polytheism, is itself flawed.  And in logic, it is impossible to come to a true conclusion if one begins with a flawed premise.
